Last year a friend of mine invited me to get involved with Help Portrait. It was held in a church gym in downtown Rockford. (One of the most unlivable cities in America, if you would believe some) We saw many people would wouldn’t other wise stop long enough for a photo. We saw people who wouldn’t smile with their mouths open, because they didn’t have enough money to take care of their teeth. But the comment that stood out to me was a mom with young children who said they were sending the photo to their father who was in jail. It’s a different life they live and if we were able to bring a warm smile to a family on a cold day, it was worth it. The full story ran in the Register Star.
